Yorvik Vikings Triumph Owners Motorcycle Club based in York nominates a Charity each year for fundraising – this year it’s CLL Support.

One of our members was diagnosed with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukaemia (CLL) in April 2024 after a routine blood test. We’d never heard of it but knew it was cancer and therefore serious!

So CLL in a nutshell:

* It’s the most common blood cancer – over 3,000 diagnosed each year - where ‘BAD’ white blood cells grow - called B lymphocytes - and crowd out the ‘GOOD’ red and white cells in the blood.

* As these ‘BAD’ lymphocytes increase, all the other blood cells are crowded out leading to extreme fatigue and compromised immunity leaving the person vulnerable to infections that otherwise healthy people could recover from.

* There are over 30,000 patients in the UK.

*There is no cure, but there is treatment once symptoms affect quality of life. Symptoms can include enlarged lymph nodes, extreme night sweats, fevers and chills, unexplained weight loss, exhaustion.

CLLSupport.org are a brilliant charity – run by volunteers and funded by donations. Their help and support is open to anyone affected by CLL, including friends and family of those with the diagnosis. The support they offer includes information and one to one support via a helpline, webinars etc.

We want to raise as much money as possible for this wonderful, little-known Charity.
