Story
Young at heart - old at legs 👨🦯
Past Eliano signed up for a half marathon in another moment of delusion. And now, here we are: 21 kilometres, 0 aerobic capacity. Is it too late to back out?
I’m running to raise money for the British Heart Foundation, a charity funding life-saving research into heart disease (and yes, now my indirect employer).
From studying very fundamental processes of ageing, I came into cardiac research to figure out how ageing increases the risk of multiple heart diseases and to ultimately come up with new strategies that can truly modify how those affected can live better and healthier lives.
While this is my scientific explanation as to why I came into this research field, I know that having lost my dad to a sudden heart attack as I was finishing my PhD a couple of years ago probably played a strong subconscious role in this decision.
BHF supports research that may find new markers to predict and avoid these catastrophic events among all their other activities to educate the population on how to deal with cardiac arrest in the most important minutes (the very first ones).
With this run, I am trying to support them by raising funds for all their activities. Donating is what keeps charities going, so please consider supporting the BHF too - all while adding extra motivation/pressure for me to go out and actually train for this and suffer for 21 kilometres 😂
Thanks for the support ❤️
