Story
After spending more than two decades writing about Lloyd’s of London and meeting contacts in the building, I never imagined I'd be heading down it itself.
But that's exactly what I'll be doing on July 9th as I take part in the Lloyd's of London Foundation and The Lord Mayor's Appeal charity abseil, descending approximately 215 feet (65 metres) from the top of the iconic Lloyd's building.
This challenge is raising funds for two organisations making a genuine difference.
The Lord Mayor's Appeal champions a City that cares. Through programmes and partnerships, it works with businesses, charities, schools, and livery companies to break down barriers, unlock potential, and create career opportunities for Londoners who need them most. Since 2012, it has partnered with more than 2,500 businesses and raised over £10 million, transforming lives across London and beyond.
The Lloyd's of London Foundation is the independent charity established and funded by Lloyd's. It delivers meaningful social impact through charitable giving, employee engagement, and partnerships focused on social mobility through education, as well as disaster resilience and recovery. In 2025 alone, the Foundation distributed £923,000 in charitable funds.
By supporting my abseil, you'll be helping both organisations continue their vital work in 2026 and beyond. Please consider supporting me as I swap my notebook for a harness and take the plunge.
Every donation, large or small, is greatly appreciated.
Thank you for your support.
