3 Peaks Challenge in 24 Hours · 17 May 2025

We provide people within the cancer community the opportunity to connect with other individuals with similar life experiences. A Cancer diagnosis can be very isolating and negatively effect mental health and wellbeing. Facing cancer is hard enough but doing it alone is far harder. Cancer in Common provides fun and free events, that allow adults from the Cancer community to meet, socialise and create support networks. These events are about having fun, with people who get it.

Story

Hello everyone.

In 2020, the world was completely shaken by the outbreak of the coronavirus. Going from normal days living everyday life, and then suddenly everything had come to a sudden stop. This was just the beginning of a very turbulent few years that were to follow, not just for the whole world, but a bit closer to home, for us as a family.

In June 2020, at the age of 23, Sophie, a daughter, a sister, and now wife, and beloved friend to many, was diagnosed with stage 4 Non Hodgkins Lymphoma Cancer. For us as a family, this was an immense shock and our lives completely turned upside down.

After treatment of chemotherapy and radiotherapy, Sophie has been left with life long chronic issues and ongoing complications everyday as a result. After 3 years of trying to rebuild her life, shortly after her wedding, lighting strikes twice. Sophie had been diagnosed with a second cancer, this time being Thyroid. This resulted in major surgery and still to this day, ongoing treatment.

During this time, Sophie has shown her resilience, strength and great courage to overcome her daily limitations. We are so incredibly proud of her. The physical trauma of cancer is undeniable. However, the mental trauma that individuals suffer from this terrible disease can also be just as gruelling.

On the 17th of May 2025, Zac (Sophie’s husband), Adam (Sophie’s father) and Nathan (Sophie’s brother) are going to be taking on the 24 hour 3 Peaks Challenge to raise money for a special charity, Cancer In Common. The challenge entails climbing the tallest mountains in Scotland (Ben Nevis), England (Scaffle Pike) and Wales (Snowdon) all within 24 hours including travelling time.

Cancer In Common provide people within the cancer community the opportunity to connect with other individuals with similar life experiences. A Cancer diagnosis can be very isolating and negatively effect mental health and wellbeing. Facing cancer is hard enough but doing it alone is far harder. Sophie herself has been to a number of these events which has helped her massively! Cancer In Common hold a special place in Sophie’s and all of our hearts for the support and effort they provide to the community.

Any donations that you can make would be hugely appreciated. It will enable Cancer In Common to put on bigger and better events, more often. We will also be sure to include plenty of pictures and updates from our challenge!
