The Children’s Air Ambulance is an inter-hospital transfer service flying critically ill babies and children from one hospital to another for specialist care. With our ability to fly approximately four times faster than a land ambulance, we can minimise travel times and the risk for patients.

Story

After losing Chester, I went through the most difficult time in my life and to no surprise, I’m still going through it and I know I will be for a long time but I’ve decided to try and honour my son by living the way he did.

For the 226 days that Chester was alive he dealt with so much, he had to fight everyday just to stay with us and he faught for as long as he could and we will be forever grateful to him for that.

So I set myself a challenge, aptly named Chester’s Challenge, where I am working out every single day for 226 days, trying to push myself, from home work outs and rejoining the gym to walking and running.

I am currently 126 days into my challenge with 100 days to go and I’ve decided to end my challenge with a bang by doing the Yorkshire Three Peaks on day 226 in an effort to raise some money for one of the many charities that helped us and Chester in so many ways.

The Children’s Air Ambulance played a vital part in Chester’s journey, they transfered Chester from the LGI to Great Ormond Street Hospital via helicopter as it was the safest way to transfer him due to his critical condition and without their support, Chester would not have made it to GOSH.

A single helicopter flight costs around £3600 and they rely entirely on charitable donations, so to give back in some small way so they can carry on helping sick children around the country I have set a target for £500 to go towards the cost of a flight to help another family in need.

So on the 26th of June I will be tackling the Three Peaks which will be the most physical challenge I’ve ever personally done but I won’t be alone, I’ll have the help and support of 16 people, made up of friends and family that I’m counting on to get me up and back down the peaks and maybe even carry me the last mile or two but one thing I know is the final part of my challenge would be a lot harder on my own so I’m extremely grateful to following people for offering to join me.

Lewis Jones, Aaron Jones, Myles Veigas, Farrah Nicholson, Davy Ledgerwood, Dami Ledgerwood, Matt Dawson, Liam Floyd, Macca Wake, James Routledge, Matthew Pollock, Matthew Haywood, Oliver Bedford, Brad Purnell, Josh Lunn.

Any donations are greatly appreciated or even just sharing this story would mean a lot, Thank you.
