Together we can break the silence and bring a voice to Domestic Abuse.
I am participating in a 30-hour silence for all the people who have had to suffer domestic abuse in silence.
Survivors fear that if they speak out, they will either not be taken seriously or may be blamed for what’s happened to them. People are often isolated from family, friends and support networks by the abuser. This makes the abuser feel more in control of the survivor reaching out for help and recognising that it is not okay. Some survivor's feel they are unable to speak up due to family expectations, cultural values and how they have been taught that this brings shame on them. Survivors then feel they have to remain in that relationship and “just put up” with the abuse.
“Domestic violence thrives on silences, secrecy and shame. So its all around us all of the time. But we don’t talk about it” -Dr. Carolyn West
So let’s support as many people as possible to speak about it in a safe environment. Our Domestic abuse counselling service is open to everyone, no matter what gender you are. £360 helps one client to receive 12 sessions of specialised trauma counselling, lets raise as much as we can and help towards a change.
2025 marks the 30th year since a group of volunteers came together to form Aylesbury Vale Rape Crisis to support survivors of sexual assault and abuse in Aylesbury and the surrounding area. In the 30 years since, SAASS has continued to deliver support to survivors empowering them, helping to build resilience and move forward with their lives.
To mark the 30th anniversary SAASSBMK aim to raise £30,000 to ensure that the vital support can continue for anyone affected by sexual violence in Buckinghamshire and Milton Keynes.
