100km Sahara Trek8 · 22 April 2024

Médecins Sans Frontières / Doctors Without Borders (MSF) is the world's leading medical humanitarian aid organisation. We work in over 70 countries - in conflict zones, natural disasters and epidemics. We are independent, neutral and impartial. We provide medical care where it's needed most.

Story

Gaza , is facing a mass humanitarian catastrophe. And is now facing a mass famine.

As of 15 March 2024, over 31,000 people have been killed and 71,000 have been wounded according to local health authorities. A further 7,700 are estimated to be buried under rubble.

Over 1.7 million people are estimated to be forcibly displaced and living in appalling conditions that are unsafe and unhealthy. This number represents nearly 75 percent of Gaza's population.

After watching this horror unfold for some time now, I decided that I would like to help in anyway that I could.

After giving it some thought, I decided to arrange a 100km long trek through the sahara desert( over 3 days) in the south east of morocco, near the Algerian border. This is to raise money for MDS( doctors without borders) who are providing healthcare, and humanitarian assistance, in multiple locations in Gaza.

I will face a number of environmental challenges, including very high temperatures, sand storms, seemingly endless rocky plains, and sand dune fields ( also known as ergs). And even the odd poisonous viper, scorpion, or spider.
