Great Scottish Run Half Marathon 2024 · 6 October 2024 ·

Tommy's funds medical research into the causes of premature birth, stillbirth and miscarriage. We’re dedicated to finding causes and treatments to save babies’ lives as well as providing trusted pregnancy and baby loss information and support.

Story

On October 6th, 2024, we'll be tackling the Glasgow Half Marathon in support of Tommy’s a leading charity stopping the heartbreak of baby loss and making pregnancy and birth safe for everyone.

For us, this is a very personal cause. Starting a family seemed straightforward until we faced the reality of fertility struggles and recurrent miscarriages. These were alien concepts until we experienced them firsthand. Our path to parenthood was filled with heartache and emotional hurdles. Unfortunately, for many, miscarriage and fertility issues become all-consuming, and sadly, many parents never actually get their dream of having a healthy baby.

In November 2022 we welcomed our beautiful miracle boy into the world and we are grateful every day that we got our happy ending. However, we'll always carry the memory of the babies we lost and the journey that we faced.

October is Baby Loss Awareness Month, and as a couple, we're committing to this half marathon for Tommy’s. The money we raise will help the charity to continue to fund research into understanding and preventing baby loss and help reach more families with expert and evidence based pregnancy advice. Neither of us are seasoned runners—just a few months ago, Zara struggled to run up stairs, and Shaun's longest run was to the pub! But, like our journey, we're tackling this together, as a team, to raise awareness and support for a cause that remains deeply personal to us.

We hope that any funds raised will help others going through their journey and that our story will help raise awareness and support those on their special journey to parenthood.

Thank you!
