Zena's fundraiser for Nelson's Journey

Zena Aldridge is raising money for Nelson's Journey

Team: A Norfolk 50 Miler

The mission of Nelson’s Journey is to increase the self-esteem, self-belief and wellbeing of bereaved children in Norfolk, by enabling families and wider society to talk openly about death and bereavement, and for children to express and understand emotions.

Story

It's 5 years since we trudged, epically up Peddar's Way and along the North Norfolk Coastal Path over 4 days to raise money for this worthy cause, raising nearly (oh so nearly) £10,000 for this incredible local charity.

So here we are again with a new challenge...

A one-hit, Norfolk 50 miler through the night from the coast to the city.

We - there being 8 of us; Duncan Carmichael, Shaun Bruce, Kevin Herring, Sam Yates, Simon Aldridge, Zena Aldridge, Pete Beasley and myself - will be starting near to our beloved Cromer on the Friday evening of 10th October - taking in some of the Paston Way - before joining Weaver's Way and then onto Marriot's Way heading for the lights of the city - it will most likely be midday (ish) when we see the cathedral spire.

Lessons learned from last time: don't carry 2 stone on your back; don't get your feet sodden wet after 3 miles (with 41 to go); eat better; pack vaseline; look up not down, even when it burns because Norfolk is wonderful to take in!

So, if you'd be so kind... please sponsor us for our efforts and support a tremendous Norfolk charity that has made a significant difference in my own life and the lives of so many others.

If we could get to £5,000 or even beyond - that would be grand.

Thank you for your support and encouragement.

Here is some further information about our chosen charity:

Nelson‘s Journey supports children and young people in Norfolk who’ve experienced the death of a significant person. Since 1997, Nelson’s Journey has helped thousands of bereaved children and young people in the county.

It is only thanks to the tremendous support of fundraisers that our work is possible.

“Having someone there for us during our grieving process was seamless. The understanding and guidance displayed during this time far exceeded my expectations.” – feedback from parent.

The importance of the impact that this support has cannot be overtstated. Thank you Nelson's Journey for really 'getting it' and helping us to accept and embrace grief.
