I'm running a marathon over a month this January. I'm doing it to raise money for a wonderful group - Phone Credit for Refugees (PC4R) who provide the vital resource of communication and connectivity to refugees and displaced people in Europe, and beyond through phone credit. PCR Co-founder, JP, says "From the beginning of the project we have worked from the same eligibility criteria, supporting people who are living without secure shelter, making an unsafe journey or being detained - and we are still working from that criteria. Except now it includes people living in an active conflict zone, experiencing one of the worst humanitarian disasters in modern history.
We opened our service in Gaza around 6 months ago. What began as a small trickle of requests has quickly turned into a huge wave. Getting physical aid into Gaza is logistically challenging, just today there have been news reports of several charities having their permission to operate in Gaza removed by Israel. But for us it's been easy. So easy that by the end of this year we'll have sent 1400 top ups, that's more than £21,000 delivered directly into people's pockets. Did any of it get lost along the way? No. Did it end up getting disributed in a fair and dignified way so as many people as possible could benefit? Yes. We're talking about £21,000 sent, arrived, received.
2026 is going to see essentially limitless demand from the people of Gaza. We can help a limitless number of people if there are a limitless number of you helping us - and there potentially are. If we all keep talking about this, if we all keep bringing more people into the group in whatever way we can think of, then it can be limitless. There are more people in the world who could potentially help somebody in Gaza than there are people in Gaza.
