The aim of the Christian Blandford fund is to improve the comfort of children and their families, particularly those affected by cancer, during prolonged stays in local NHS hospitals. This is how the lovely people at Post Pals described us “they realised a lot of people support the main children’s or cancer hospitals yet the local hospitals which children spend a lot of time in with infections or for transfusions rarely get support. They decided instead of fundraising for huge items they instead would do the little things others don’t think of, like buying decent curtains for the children’s ward so the kids no longer wake up at sunrise in the summer – a truly wonderful charity working away quietly at improving families quality of life.”

Story

About The Christian Blandford Fund

I found out about The Christian Blandford Fund through my amazing friend Christian, who has been through cancer twice - first in 2005 at just 18 months old, and again in 2006 where he was given only a 5% chance of survival. By 2007, at just the age of 4, Christian underwent his second round of surgery, chemo and radiotherapy, which was far more intensive than his first round, and he has thankfully been out of remission since 2012. The CBF, set up by Christians parents Claudia and Pete, works to uplift and maximise the comfort of children like Christian, particularly those with cancer, and their families during prolonged and uncertain periods of stay in NHS hospitals.

By hearing about Christian’s experiences I am desperate to support a cause that is so important to the issues that he and so many others have unfortunately faced. The comfort of children in hospital provides the anchor, support and truly shapes their experience during a time that must be so daunting and uncertain, and also provides relief for families who are able to see that their loved one is cared for in a comfortable and nurturing environment.

The process of raising money

Having been training for the last few months, I plan to complete a series of half marathons over the next 2 years, including the Great North Run (and later a marathon) in which the donations I raise will go towards the CBF and improving the experience of children in NHS hospitals. I am delighted to have the opportunity to support such an important and wholesome cause.

Any and all donations are greatly appreciated! :)
