Zoe Mann is raising money for Mountbatten Isle of Wight
In memory of Jill Dargan

Lapland Dog Sled · 20 March 2026

Mountbatten is the Isle of Wight's only hospice and is known for innovation across the UK and beyond. We provide expert medical, nursing and domiciliary end of life care and bereavement support to people in their own homes, including care homes, in our Newport building and in the local hospital.

Story

Almost 4 years ago, my darling mum died of the horrible disease which is cancer. 2 Years ago I climbed Kilimanjaro with some brilliant people to raise funds for the utterly wonderful team at Mountbatten Hospice on the Isle of Wight, who cared for Mum in her final weeks and who made most things a little more bearable.

However, Mum always believed in making the most of each precious day and living life to the max. With this in mind, and knowing that you should always be able to plan your next adventure, I have signed up to dog sled over 240km across Sweden in the Arctic Circle. Obviously, I won't be doing this alone, but with a small team of others, and more importantly, a pack of huskies. More horsepower is giving way to houndpower!

For those of you who know me well, you may have (from time to time but rarely) heard me moan about hating the cold. On this adventure, I can expect temperatures dropping to -20C, excessive snow (who knows what a normal amount is?) as well as having to put up a tent - I mean what could possibly go wrong???

I do this gladly, to raise money once again, for the wonderful team who work for Mountbatten. For anyone who has previously come into contact with the team, I know you will wholeheartedly agree with me that from the staff who answer the phone to the nurses who so diligently look after our loved ones, they are worth every ounce of our appreciation and support.

Please, please, if you can, support this amazing charity and me. I promise to keep you updated as I go along. Should anyone be feeling incredibly generous, there will be opportunities for more significant donations to convince me to even take a plunge into an icy lake - but you will need to make it worth it!

You all know the blurb about JustGiving, but to reassure you, donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for the charity. don't forget to tick for Gift Aid if you can.

Massive love and grateful thanks,

Zoe xx
