The Shropshire Union Canal Society plays a vital role in preserving and improving one of our region’s most historic waterways, keeping it safe, accessible, and enjoyable for everyone who walks, boats, cycles, or simply loves being near the canal. Much of the restoration and maintenance work is carried out by dedicated volunteers through monthly working parties, giving the society an enormous impact despite limited resources. I’m raising money to support this hands‑on conservation effort, and it’s especially meaningful because my twins are completing their Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award by volunteering with these teams (chaperoned by me!). Our hands-on involvement has shown us just how much the society achieves—and how much community support helps it continue.
