On the 6th march I will begin a mammoth swimming challenge of endurance - the equivalent distance of the English Channel which is 21 miles. This equates to 1352 lengths. My aim is complete this in 22 days my final swim being on Eilidh’s Angel’versary.

Eilidh was 14 when she collapsed on a school trip in February 2009. A scan showed she had a tumour the size of a melon which was promptly removed. Tests showed the tumour was malignant and that she also had a form of turners syndrome, a chromosomal disorder which occurs in 1 out of 2000 girls and is likely to have made her predisposed to germ cell cancer in her ovaries.

Throughout the year Eilidh endured several major surgeries to remove various tumours as well as countless hours of chemotherapy & radiotherapy.

Sadly, Eilidh passed away on 25th march 2010 after a 14month battle with the disease, 9 days short of her 16th birthday.

Her family said she showed tremendous bravery and wisdom throughout her ordeal and inspired everyone who came into contact with her.

Eilidh was the most extraordinary, loving, sweet, faithful and brave young girl who always thought of others before herself. Needless to say the effects of cancer had a devastating impact on Eilidh and the family and they resolved that whatever the outcome, they wanted somehow to help others and make sure Eilidh legacy would continue.

To this end her family set up the Eilidh Brown memorial fund.

Since then her family have been working tirelessly to build a stunning countryside respite holiday home in the Stirling area for young people and their families who are going through, went through or sadly lost a child to cancer.

In October 2022 the first family was welcomed in to Eilidh house, however the support doesn’t stop there. Eilidhs family still need lots fundraising in order to keep the house running.

Thankyou in advance for any support you can give me, even if it’s just a share on social media, a £1 or £10. It really means a lot and will mean so much to the charity and the continued need to fund the respite home.
