ZOE LARDER is raising money for Alzheimer's Research UK

12 marathons, 12 months, one mission - for a cure

Alzheimer’s Research UK is the UK’s leading dementia research charity. We’re striving for a cure, by revolutionising the way we treat, diagnose and prevent dementia.

Story

Thank you for taking time to visit my page.

My forties have been an emotional decade. We completed our family, and both kids have grown and blossomed brilliantly. Work has challenged my resilience more than I would ever have imagined, which I would not have navigated without the headspace that running gives me. Still love it though!

After my dearest friend Anita died in 2019, I started running, on the morning of her funeral. Safe to say it escalated from that day onwards. Watching dad’s health decline, during the pandemic and beyond, Alzheimer’s taking away the bright and kind man that he was, was a painful process. Once again I was able to seek peace out on the trails, becoming involved with ARUK back in 2021. A few events followed, ultras and London marathon flying the ARUK flag.

Now I’m taking on one big year long challenge, to complete a marathon every month, at an event, each one different, in the last 12 months of my 40s. Raising money to push for a cure, for Dad, for Papa and others close to our family affected by this cruel disease.

Every 3 minutes dementia steals a happily ever after. Research is our only chance of changing the ending for people affected by dementia. Your donation helps our scientists and researchers find new ways to diagnose dementia, develop new treatments and find a cure for dementia.
