We're organising a Zumbathon in memory of our dear friend Maria Mitchell.

Maria taught Zumba and Fitness classes for over 10 years. She was a fantastic, inspiring role model for those who attended her classes and believed that her role was not only to inspire by example, but also to lift people’s spirits during her classes.

No more was this true than during the Covid pandemic, when Maria struggled to manage technology which was new to her so that she could continue providing lessons for people online.

She helped us all cope with the trials and tribulations of lockdown and her lessons were the highlight of our week. For those who were struggling financially, Maria gave the lessons free of charge.

One of my favourite routines from that time was “So che un angelo c’e” (I know there is an angel) because Maria was our guardian angel watching over us and helping us to survive.

Maria and I always talked of organising a Zumbathon to raise money for charity, but we never managed to do so. This is why I started to think of doing one now to raise money for a charity which was close to her heart and could have helped her, if she were with us now.
