Story

Background

In August 2010 unnaturally heavy monsoon rains in Pakistan's north-west lead to floods devastating Pakistan. One fifth of the country was submerged in floodwaters and affected approximately 20 million people.

Al-Khair Foundation’s strategy was two tiered. In co-operation with the Pakistani government, UN agencies, international NGOs and local relief organizations we provided immediate emergency relief. Aid was delivered to those affected in Punjab, Sindh and Azad Jammu Kashmir.

Our work focused on:

·         Medical aid

·         Water and sanitation

·         Food security and livelihoods

·         Shelter

·         Reconstruction

The second step has been to rebuild devastated communities.  Our reconstruction campaign entitled: ‘let’s rebuild Pakistan’ is designed to create sustainable development that makes Pakistan fairer and more disaster-resilient.

Whilst rebuilding Pakistan includes incorporates AKF’s follows WASH strategy which aims to fulfil United Nation Millennium Development Goals by delivering:

·        Water and sanitation projects

·        Shelter and housing projects

·        Health projects

·        Educational projects
