We exist to defend the right to a safe home and fight the devastating impact the housing emergency has on people and society. We believe that home is everything.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

So, it is done, and what a stirling performance it was. Practically sprinting, we were! Rising up the tower like Pegasuses with helium shoes, gliding effortlessly up step after step, floor after floor, ticking off London's other landmark: Higher than Nelson? Check. Higher than Big Ben? Check! Higher than the Gherkin!! Check!!!! HIGHER THAN HENDRIX!!! Not quite...

or

We made it! We drooled our way to the top, living up to our name with boots on! But what an effort, and what a view from the top. If we weren't all hallucinating from the lactic acid that had by then reached our brains we would have seen for miles... But we were all pretty much on target, and, if I may say so, rather bashful about our performance.

Thank you so much to all of you who sponsored us, and remember: It is still not too late.

For those who need validation, here are the running times:

Kim Anderson: 9:27 - Peter Hazell: 8:06 - John Petken: 10:17 - Lindsay Pirie: 10:18 - Henning Halck: 8:00

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

Pre run message:

Just before Christmas, taking blatant advantage of the good and generous moods we were all in approaching the holidays, Kim asked the less sensible people she knew if they were up for a challenge: a chocolate eating contest. Four of us immediately agreed that this sounded like a great idea, and signed on a dotted line without really reading the small print.

And guess what? It wasn't for a chocolate eating contest at all!!! It was for a race up the 42 floors, 920 steps, 600 ruddy vertical feet of the 42 tower in the City of London!!!

Then, once we had spent 3 hours trying to rub out our signatures with our nipples, we asked why  in the name of all things small and furry she had so callously lured us into this, and she told us about Shelter, which really is a rather marvellous bunch of people building sweatshop factories in Bangladesh. No, really, they are an organisation who offer advice to people who not only are facing homelessness, but who need honest advice on housing problems. Shelter also tackles the root causes of bad housing by lobbying government and local authorities for new laws and policies, and more investment, to improve the lives of homeless and badly housed people. And in these times, they really, really, REALLY need your help! So please visit their website to learn more about what they do. And please: Dig deep and donate now.
