Story

We have teamed up with Kingston Hospital and the climbing wall at Xcel Walton, to raise money for additional technology resources in the Paediatric service. Distractions such as music, games and TV have been medically proven to effectively reduce pain and anxiety in children during clinical procedures. The equipment that the Paediatric service seeks is a Virtual Reality Therapy kit which can offer a much deeper immersive experience resulting in greater levels of distraction. The cost of one kit is £9,300.

We are setting up a challenge to help them raise this money - we are going to climb Mount Everest in a day, taking place on the 15th April during the Easter break. We will accomplish this through each individual climbing up the wall as many times as possible and adding their distance travelled to a total distance. Each climb is 12m and we need to reach 8,849m (the height of Mount Everest). We are hugely fortunate that we have the Xcel Walton climbing wall for the whole day, starting at 10am and finishing at 7pm. This will be split into sessions for pupils, parents, teachers, and alumni to join us to add their climbs to our total. We are hugely fortunate that we have the Xcel Walton climbing wall for the whole day, starting at 10am and finishing at 7pm. We have chosen to raise money for the Kingston Paediatric unit as, not only do we have parents who work there, but it's such an essential service that many of, not just our children, but all children will have likely used and may use in the future. We want to help and support children and staff by, hopefully, providing funds for the purchase of resources that will make that time in hospital easier.
