HUNTINGTON’S DISEASE
YOUR SUPPORT IS NEEDED!
Patricia Fyfe is running the ADDIDAS 5K CHALLENGE on Sunday 7th September at Hyde Park
Patricia is running in aid of Huntington’s Disease.
Up to 50,000 people in Britain are affected by the ravages of Huntington’s Disease with up to 6,000 – 10,000 sufferers in the UK
at any one time.
Patricia has lost her father, sister and brother to Huntington’s Disease after battling this cruel illness for many years. Her remaining sister has also been diagnosed with this disease and is currently stable.
Patricia herself is at risk of inheriting the gene and going on to develop the illness at some point in her life.
Hungtinton’s Disease is a neurological disorder; a disease of the brain. It is a hereditary disease which is caused by a faulty gene
on chromosome 4.
In some way, the faulty gene leads to a damage of the nerve cells
in the area of the brain, including the Basal Ganglia and the
Cerebal Cortex.
Since so much of the brain’s activity passes through these areas
the death of these cells affects virtually everything about a person, including movements, moods and thinking processes.
As Hungtington’s Disease progresses the individual requires
more and more help and support in managing the activities of
daily life.
Hungtinton’s Disease is an illness which many people either do
not know about or do nor understand.
Patricia’s aim is to help increase people’s awareness and raise money in support of this charity.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and thank you for your support.
