Tough Mudder 5K London South (Weekend 2) · 21 September 2019 ·
Urban Uprising is a charity that uses rock climbing to improve the physical, social and emotional wellbeing of young people, disadvantaged by poverty/health/social inequalities.
We will be doing the 5k tough mudder obstacle course this September 22nd, to raise money to help young people from disadvantaged backgrounds get the a chance to enjoy the social and mental benefits climbing can provide.
The entry costs for climbing can be expensive for some, posing a barrier for lower-income families. I am raising funds to help young people in Cambridgeshire from deprived areas try climbing for the first time, which research has shown can increase their confidence, self-reliance and reduce stress levels.
It is easy to view Cambridge as an equal city for all. A recent report (see pg. 60), however, shows Cambridge as the city with the largest income gap in the country!
This income gap equates to a 10-year difference in life expectancy (pg.6), due to lack of access to health-improving resources.
There will be tears, sweat, but hopefully also joy in knowing I've helped support a cause in need!
The money raised will help Urban Uprising run more programmes and reach more at-risk young people. We need your help. By donating you can be part of the solution.
See how small donations can make a big difference!
£7 - Will enrol a young person in the national indoor bouldering award scheme and provides logbooks to record their personal achievements
£10 - Will let one young person take part in a taster session, to introduce them to the basics and fun of climbing
