Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

In September I shall be taking on one of the toughest challenges in the world by trekking up to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro. Standing at over 18000 feet the Mountain is one of the most spectacular sights the world has to offer and is Africa’s tallest mountain.

The trip will last for 11 days in total. I am leaving Heathrow airport on the 16th September, flying down to Nairobi where we will then pick up another flight down to Kilimanjaro airport. It is then a three hour drive to a local hotel where we try to get some sleep before the trek starts on the 18th September. For the next 8 days i will be walking over 52 miles that will see me having to deal with temperatures over 30degrees C at the bottom to minus 20 degrees C on the summit night. Oxygen levels drop to just under 50% once we reach the summit which increases the difficulty of the task!

I am raising money for the Oxfordshire Association for Young People (OAYP). OAYP are Oxfordshire's oldest voluntary youth charity and the main focus of the organisation is to support voluntary based youth clubs and youth groups. The charity provides advice and guidance on how to run a successful youth club as well as setting up new youth clubs where there is no existing youth provision.

OAYP has a proven track record when it comes to its work with youth clubs and young people. OAYP aims to address the rural isolation issues that many young people face by taking positive activities direct to communities and young people through its mobiles sports, arts and drama team.
