Story

UPDATE : Pedal in Preston Park , saturday 30.10.10

clear weather on the day meant there was a good turnout with over 300 cyclists taking part during the day . the 5000 lap target was achieved in the early afternoon and by the end of the day a massive 12180 laps ( thats 7,300 km !! ) had been recorded . a huge thank you to all those that helped organise the day , everyone that came and cycled and to all the sponsors . ( special thanks to elke and lara for the cakes and soups )  the event looks set to have raised over £18,000 for the MNDA

we managed 136 laps as a family , with Hamish completing 80 and Robin 16 . I made up the other 40 .

there are some great photos on the vc jubilee facebook page , check them out ( http://www.facebook.com/vcjubilee )

more to follow later ........

thanks for taking the time to visit our justgiving page.

Hamish and I are raising money for the MNDA ( Motor Neurone Disease Association )  to help them support people who have MND and to find a cure for MND .

We will be cycling at the Pedal in Preston Park event in Brighton on Saturday October 30th 2010 . We will be aiming to complete 100 laps ( 60 km ) of the Preston Park cycle track as our contribution to the 5000 lap challenge of cycling Land's End to John O'Groats There and Back in a day .

In November 2009 my wife Rachel died of Motor Neurone Disease (MND), she was 44.  She had been diagnosed with MND two years previously.  Watching a loved one succumb to this disease is an awful experience.  Knowing that there is no cure for MND, or even any way of slowing its progression, makes that experience even worse.

As a family we wanted to do something positive that will help the MND Association to care for families with MND while working to find treatments and a cure.

During her illness the questions that Hamish and his sister Robin would ask me the most was " what causes mnd " and " how did mum get mnd ? " at the time i was not able to answer these questions , but i hope that one day i can .

To make sure the next family who needs help from the MNDA  gets it - please sponsor us now .....

thanks and feel free to pop along to the track on October 30th to cheer us and all the other fundraisers on ....
