Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

A select few mad-cap Pennine Stone employees have decided to embark on a challenge to test their physical and mental strength in a bid to raise some money for a worthy cause. All team members will be battling personal demons of some kind to get them through the event, however one individuals battle stands out above them all. One of our team members already has a daily battle against Type 1 Diabetes, so to even contemplate entering an event such as Tough Mudder when living with a condition like this is extremely courageous. We are entering this as a team and even if we need to pull people through the mud by their ankles, we will be finishing as a team.

We have therefore decided that our chosen charity will be Diabetes UK, and we would be extremely grateful to anybody who wishes to donate a small amount to this great cause.

Type 1 Diabetes means your body can't produce enough insulin. It's a lifelong condition and, if untreated, it can cause very serious health problems. Type 1 Diabetes accounts for about 10 per cent of all adults with Diabetes and is treated by daily insulin doses - taken either by injections or via an insulin pump. It is also recommended to follow a healthy diet and take regular physical activity. Type 1 Diabetes can develop at any age but usually appears before the age of 40, and especially in childhood. It is the most common type of diabetes found in childhood.

The chosen event will be Tough Mudder Midlands, held on Saturday 21st May 2016 at Belvoir Castle, Grantham. Tough Mudder is a team-oriented 10-12 mile (18-20 km) obstacle course designed to test physical strength and mental grit. Tough Mudder puts camaraderie over finisher rankings and and is not a timed race but a team challenge that allows participants to experience exhilarating, yet safe, world-class obstacles they won't find anywhere else. With obstacle names such as Birth Canal, The Liberator, Skidmarked, Cry Baby, Arctic Enema and Electroshock Therapy, they are designed to test the toughest mental and physical abilities of each individual and guarentee to get everybody soaking wet, freezing cold, mud covered, tear gassed and a little bit electrocuted.
