Story

Hello and thank you for visiting my fundraising page!

Over the next 18 months I shall be raising money to carry out two music projects in with children with special needs. We shall be working in two communities: Temi in the Kakheti Province of Georgia (2009) and Hippocrates in (2010).

- Temi welcomes residents of all ages and capacities and provides a caring and stimulating environment to children and adults with special needs, as well as children without families, elderly people, and indeed anyone who wishes to become part of this inclusive community.

Hippocrates was founded in 2000 and with the help of Tony Hawks, the writer and comedian, the Centre was opened the following year.  ChildAid has been the principal supporter of the Centre since it opened.

Hippocrates has both a medical and social profile. Its mission is to improve the quality of life of chronically ill children from socially vulnerable families and to facilitate their integration into society. This is accomplished with the enhancement of access to high quality multi-functional rehabilitation services and parental education. The aim of these services is to optimise the child’s potential and to enhance the development of a young body as it grows. By working with parents of young children, Hippocrates is able to give hope to the family and prevent the child being abandoned to a life locked away in an institution.

The music projects will comprise a series of workshops, based on local folklore and song.  Two fantastic, international musicians: Howard Moody (keyboard, voice, composition, percussion) and Ken Aiso (violin) will be working alongside local carers, teachers and music students so that in the long term the work will be self-sustaining.

Howard, together with musicians from the Sarum Orchestra, already has many years’ experience of working with children and adults with special needs in the Wiltshire area and their approach has become a model of good practice.  Howard and Ken are also concert soloists and will be performing in Tblisi and Chisinau, to raise further funds for the communities.

The initial giving, will pay for the project work but if we can raise more money, we can buy instruments and music to leave behind.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure.  It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me:  ChildAid to and the Republics gets your money faster and, if you are a taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure that 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3%   supplement are added to your donation.

Please help us to make the projects become a reality!

Thank you

Jane
