Because every girl should have sanitary pads · 25 July 2018

I am Juliana from Barut, Kenya. I provide people in my community with free period pads. But demand is rising, and I need your support to produce reuse-able pads locally for everyone who need them.

Story

Just £8 will provide a woman or girl with washable sanitary pads for 2 years- i can't think of anything else I'd rather pay for

A couple of years ago I met an amazing woman named Juliana. She came into my life at a time that could only have been because the universe meant for us to meet.

In 2016, through Raise the Roof, we had designed and distributed over 45,000 sanitary pads to women and girls across East Africa. However, when Trump reinstated the gag rule, we lost our biggest partner and were unable to keep up the project. In walks Juliana.

We were working in the same community, she had been supporting women and girls with sanitary pads, leadership, economic empowerment and education- she really was changing her community

We’d lost our biggest partner and Juliana didn’t have the capacity to keep up the amazing work she was doing, but she had a plan!

Juliana wanted to set up a hub that would create jobs for women, and keep girls in school, by producing the pads locally. And I’m now completely committed to helping her make that happen.

Fast forward a year and we have this amazing opportunity to profile the work that she is doing (you can watch a short video here https://www.facebook.com/RTRcharity/videos/2062303977135592/)

To make this a reality - we need to raise £30k. But just £8 will provide a woman or girl with pads that can support her for 2 years.

I can tell you first hand about the impact having pads has on these women and girls, is like no other. One woman told me that she got her dignity back, and a young girl told me how she can now play games in school and socialise with her friends. Another told me that she’s now proud to be a woman and wants to help other girls like her- and to me, that’s worth every penny!

Anything your able to contribute to help the women and girls in this community will go a really long way- and we’ll show you exactly where! Thank you
