Story

"I can't believe that you've talked them into doing that for their summer holiday............"

Not Benidorm, not Skegness, not even Aberdeen's very own Codona's Amusement Park.........no.......in 2011, Perran has talked his family into driving the "support VW Camper Van" as their main summer holiday, while he and two pals cycle from Land's End to John O'Groats........

Annie, our two boys (4 and 7) and Rusty the spaniel will be in hot pursuit, or more likely many miles infront, with a supply of pasta, spare inner tubes, and performance enhancing flapjack while Perran, Doc Tim (a cardiologist !) and Mikey T. pedal about 100 miles a day between LE and JOG.

A route picked to visit as many friends and family along the way as possible provides the paper thin excuse for a "family holiday". Tim, Mike and I will also try ride up quite a lot of the "100 Greatest Cycling Climbs in the UK" on our route................

Why ?

Because it's there......and it feels like an attainable target (unlike walking to the North Pole, or climbing K2, which would be even harder to persuade the family to come along for !)

Who for ?

All of the money that I raise from the Land's End to John O'Groats bike ride will be split between Aberdeen Foyer and Crathes Primary School.

Aberdeen Foyer is a successful charitable organisation working to prevent and alleviate youth homelessness and unemployement in the Aberdeen area. Most people think of a thriving oil and gas industry when they think of Aberdeen, but there's much more to the city and the local area. The team at Aberdeen Foyer provide much needed support for young people at a critical stage in their lives. Aberdeen Foyer is supported by several of the major employers in Aberdeen, including my own employer Shell UK.

Crathes Primary School is our local school, and like many others, is working hard to maintain high standards and diverse activities in these times of government imposed austerity.
