One wintery night last year myself and my old pal Robert (or Bennett as i've always known him) got to talking over a cosy beer or three about our desire to take on some kind of challenge in 2017. You know...something silly, yet rewarding, like climbing a mountain. Thereafter, I thought little more about it but Robert being Robert, got bored and spent some time on the internet. One thing led to another and before long he'd signed up to walk 100km in less than 30 hours to raise money for Oxfam GB and The Gurkha Welfare Trust as part of the Trailwalker 2017 endurance challenge.
Now of course, I had to take some responsibility and join him in this endeavour otherwise what kind of a mate would I be? In addition, he also managed to talk Iain and Andy into this crazy plan, who agreed without even being softened up with a few beers (to the best of my knowledge anyway!)
So here we all are. Committed to walking 100km across the South Downs in less than 30 hours - no matter what the weather, no matter how many giant piles of animal poo we step into in the middle of the night and no matter how many aches and pains our frankly no longer teenage bodies protest with. There will be no sleep and no rest but I suspect there will be lots of jelly babies, beef jerky, pork pies and a sneaky hip flask or two to see us through to the end.
If you'd like to support us in this (obviously insane) effort then you can do so on this page. The money we raise will make a real difference to Oxfam GB and to The Gurkha Welfare Trust - two incredible charities making a real difference to people both at home and abroad.
You can find out more information on the event and charities here: http://www.oxfam.org.uk/trailwalker
