Story

As many of you will know my son Nick spent several months in Kings College Hospital last year after suffering a massive brain haemorrhage.  This led to many complications and he had to endure at least a dozen operations on his brain including surgery to remove a tumour.  The level of care Nick received whilst he was in Kings was amazing.  There were so many consultants, doctors, nurses and support staff who were involved in looking after him and without them he would not be here today.  We are very thankful that Nick was cared for at Kings and we honestly could not have asked for more.  We are happy to report that Nick has made a truly remarkable recovery although he still has some challenges ahead. We are all extremely proud of him!

There was one particular day in the whole nightmare that we all went through that sticks out in our minds.  We were called to the hospital urgently as Nick had taken a turn for the worst.  Fortunately thanks to the brilliant team looking after him he pulled through that day and of course we were all so relieved.  One of the male nurses looking after him came to see us later in the day to tell us Nick was doing well.  He was smiling and asked us what the tattoo was all about on his bottom.  We looked at each other not knowing what he was talking about and he realised he had put his foot in it as we didn't know about it! When I started to tell my family about this I noticed that they were avoiding giving eye contact and looking a bit sheepish.  It turns out everyone knew about Nicks tattoo apart from Steph and I,  including Amy and even our next door neighbour!!  Apparently after a few drinks the previous year in Ayia Napa Nick had decided to have the initials of some of his friends names tattooed on his bottom. This was obviously a great source of amusement to everyone and it did cheer us all up on what had been an awful day. At that time after much joking about I made a promise to Nick that when he was better I would also get a tattoo.

This is the reason we thought it might be apt for my brothers and I to have a letter each of Nicks name tattooed on our bottoms. We would like to try and raise as much money as possible to help support Kings and the wonderful work they do in saving lives every day. We are booked in at the tattooist for Saturday 21st November and would be grateful for any donations large or small which will go directly to the Kings College Hospital Charity and specifically for equipment in Critical Care.

Special thanks also to my brothers Rick, Dave and Chris for taking part in this event!

Thank you.

Pete, Steph, Amy and Nick xx
