Sponsored Bike ride from Mizen Head to Malin Head - Ireland · 13 September 2009

Friends of Pebane supports the community in Pebane, Mozambique. This is done through team members going out to support and help the local people with whatever is required, such as painting or medical aid. A local person is also employed to help maintain the water supply and other essential needs.

Story

That's right, I'm going cycling. In Ireland.

With a group of 9 others, I'm cycling from Mizen Head to Malin Head in Ireland. That's from right down at the bottom to right up at the top, around about 500 miles over 5 days. Madness! Raising money for Friends of Pebane, a project linked with Stirling Baptist Church, who are involved with a small town in Mozambique called, surprisingly, Pebane. Money raised will be used to (and I'm quoting here) "help in the refurbishment of hospital buildings and to improve resources to assist in patient diagnosis and treatment". All good stuff, I think you'll agree! Work in the past has included providing the hospital with water, bringing silly amounts of medical equipment over in a big container (and then converting the container into an operating theatre), and running training sessions for the staff. If you would like to find out more about the project, visit www.themoznet.blogspot.com - a team have been over for the past 5 summers (not continually, they come home in between), and you can read more about their crazy adventures there! Most of them seem to be pumpkin/bat poo related, but I'm sure there are more...

Gift aid is good too, if any of you earn enough to pay tax. Might as well squeeze every last penny out of Alistair Darling while he still thinks he's in charge of all that money business.

Happy giving!

P.S. If anyone has some padded shorts I can borrow... or advice on chafing...
