Story
Pete's Para Challenge is this year’s challenge for Pete and the team in aid of the Afghanistan Trust - Pulling a 250 kilo Oven called "Agatha" 150 miles from the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire to London over nine days of running!
The Team have now completed the 153.5 miles run during a very hot nine days. This was hard work with some long stretching hills, the heat causing significant fluid loss and our legs getting progressively more and more tired as the days went on.
The public were great and very, very supportive on the route and via our Just Giving site which we are eternally grateful for! Every single penny does make a difference and will be spent towards making an easier and less traumatic transition for an injured soldier following life changing injuries . The money also supports the families of those who have tragically lost their lives or who are having to stay close to their loved ones whilst they are in Hospital having surgery. This really does have a dramatic and positive effect on their recovery time.
During this challenge we were also supported by the media and local and national press. As well as being fully supported by BFBS particularly on the forces radio, with daily radio updates and interviews. We were also interviewed by Kate from BFBS television, and although it could be said "we all have faces for radio", the interview made it onto their TV News channel!
The incredible and dedicated team behind me have worked tirelessly for 8 months to get this challenge up and running and to them I thank them as I could not of done it without them. There were elements of fun, laughter and sheer bloody minded determination that have made this year's challenge such a success! I also need to credit and thank my two engine/brake men, John Vergopolous and Paul Milson, as they kept me going in more ways than one and without them this challenge would not have been possible nor would I have got to the finish line at the Guild Hall Yard,. Where we were greeted by the Chelsea pensioners, Commissioner of the City of London Police, Sherriff of the City of London, General Jacko Page (3 Star General Parachute Regiment) friends, families and lots and lots of supporters!
We would also like to thank our main sponsors DialAFlight, who were absolutely first class and totally committed to this challenge and what we had set out to achieve. They have been there all the way and nothing was ever too much trouble. In particular, I would like to mention Freddie Evans who worked long hours to ensure we had some where to stay each night!
On Thursday the 18th of September we held a black tie charity evening for Pete's Para Challenge in London. This was a huge success with a large amount of money being raised from the auction. This was in the region of £30,000 and people are still donating. I know everyone who attended will remember the evening for a long time, as it was a very humbling, but fun evening. I would also like to thank Dave and Michele for organising this very successful and enjoyable event on top of their already busy jobs and day lifes!
Lastly, to you for coming onto this site and donating - thank you!! We really do appreciate your support and donations, which have been paramount to the success of this Challenge. These valuable funds are exactly what the Trust needs to carry on their excellent work in changing injured Parachute Regiment soldiers' lifes!
This site will stay open so please do keep donating!
Thank you so very very much!!
