Story

Firstly, thanks for visiting my page and I am hoping that once you've read my story you are then able to make a choice to donate to a great cause that will help change people's lives, lives like mine. .  Here is my personal story......

In March 2017 I was sadly diagnosed with Kidney Cancer at the young age of just 39 years old.  Being told that I had Cancer was without doubt the most difficult news I have ever faced not to mention the trail of devastation it caused for my family, friends and work colleagues.  With no warning signs whatsoever I was taken to A&E on a Saturday night in chronic pain after self diagnosing myself with what I thought to be Kidney stones. After a lot of waiting and then a CT scan I was about to be given the news that would rock my world, news that would change life as I knew it.  The Doctor approached me with the results of the CT scan and confirmed that I didn't have kidney stones and the pain was being caused by an 11cm tumour on my right Kidney.  Time stopped for what felt like an eternity as I tried to process what I'd been told.  Being diagnosed with Cancer is not something I knew how to deal with and suddenly I changed from being this brave, positive guy into a frightened and worried man. I quickly learned that the physical affects of cancer I could deal with, like the agonising pain of the internal bleeding as a result of the tumour.  Little did I know that the physical pain was the easiest part and I found the hardest part having to deliver the news to people I loved and cared about especially my 2 daughters.  All I can say is that this is the part of my story I can not put into words as it hurts too much but at the same time inspired me to believe. The NHS team and Cancer professionals really stepped in at this point and before I knew it plans were already being made to treat me. A week later I underwent surgery and had what's called a laparoscopic Radical Nephrectomy (Kidney removal).  Having my Kidney removed Laparoscopically (key hole surgery) has had such a benefit on my recovery as it minimised the wound size, reduced the risk of infection and allowed me to get mobile quicker.  This also allowed me to then focus myself on trying to beat Cancer by having a positive mind.  As it stands currently my Cancer has been graded at Stage 3 which is the high risk category of prognosis. I know that I have a battle ahead but I believe I am one of the lucky ones as I have a fantastic family, brilliant friends and great work colleagues. I do however understand that there are others out there not as lucky.  I would love it so much if after reading my story (whether you know me well or not) you could find it in your heart to help others, like me to get the best possible start to fighting this disease by donating to the Scannappeal cause.

Scannappeal raises funds to purchase the lifesaving state of the art equipment that treats Prostate, Kidney and Bladder cancers.

I am so grateful for all the support that has been given to me at a time when I really needed it and I know that we can make a difference together.  A huge thanks to the Tesco Convenience South team who will put their bodies on the line in June 2017 to climb Mount Snowdon to raise money for the cause.  I am truly humbled by your commitment.

Keep believing,

Phil (aka T3aN0M0)
