At Alzheimer’s Society we’re working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives. We do this by giving help to those living with dementia today, and providing hope for the future by campaigning to make dementia the priority it should be and funding groundbreaking research.

Story

Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.

Well ....we made it !!!!!!!

We hit the hills, had trials and tribulations, but we made it.

Following the success of last year's John Lewis Building Building Group Charity Bike Bide to Paris, this year John Lewis completed a much more challenging, cycle ride from the the west to east coast of Northern England from Whitehaven to Tynemouth from the Thursday 9th July to Saturday 11th July

Photo's have been posted up on my Facebook page for some time now....but it's taken me a wee while to get the photo's up on this site. Of the 24 cyclists originally signed up , 1No. had to withdraw literally a few days before we were due to start due to a burst appendix. Get well soon Peter!

Of the 23No. that started , all 23No. managed to get  to the finish line - despite 3No. punctures (including 1No. for myself) , 1No. broken gearset cable (Ben), and one completely knackered deraileur gear set (Paul). Our sincere thanks must go to the cycle repair shops in Keswick and in Penrith for their oustanding asisstance under time pressure to keep us going.
Ben had to return back to Keswick on Day 2 with his broken cable, only to reurn to us a couple of hours later good as new. Similarly Paul had to be picked up by the support team and be shuttled onwards to Penrith after a spectacular crashing of his gearset actually tisted his entire derailleur gearset up into the spokes of his wheel. Nice!
Paul was out of action for the rest of Day 2 but was able to rejoin us on Day 3 due to the sterling efforts of the Penrith Cycle shop.

Special thanks must also go to the guys in the support team, who kept us fed, watered and in good spirits as we tackled some sincerely steep hills.

This year the group of John Lewis Building Group Partners and suppliers wanted to raise £20,000 towards providing vital services for the Alzheimer's Society, the leading UK charity in the fight against dementia. I am not completely sure of the running total for us all, but it would be fair to say that people have struggled this year to coax money out of corporate bodies and individuals alike due to the credit crunch - so many thanks to those of you who have already contributed , and many thanks again for those of you who are about to do so.

The money we have raised will go towards such things as memory walks and gardening projects to help people with dementia. You can find out more about this disease and the work the Alzheimers Society do by visiting their web site www.alzheimers.org.uk

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It's also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Alzheimer's Society gets your money faster and, if you're a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

The site is still open for 4 weeks after the event so please continue to sponsor me now. Every donation - large or small will get me closer to that magic figure.

 Many Thanks.

 Philip
