Story

Hi thank you for reading this, my name is Sarah-Jayne Lewis and I am 40 years old and I have had M.E. since September 2013. Over night I went from a fit 39 year old who worked full time as a manager supporting adults with learning difficulties who loved to kayak and weight train and had a full social life to someone that couldn't get out of bed because of extreme fatigue. From that day I have spent most of my time housebound and some times bed bound due to debilitating mental and physical fatigue and many other unbearable symptoms. In August 2014 I was diagnosed with M.E. M.E. stands for Myalgic Encephalomyelitis and it is a devastating and  incurable chronic neurological illness that affects 250,000 people in the UK alone and many millions more worldwide.  Many sufferers are left bedbound and housebound and in some cases people die from it either as a direct result of the illness or through suicide.  M.E. affects everyone differently  and the symptoms are many and can include severe physical and mental fatigue, muscle pain, crippling headaches, flu like symptoms, insomnia, sore throat, enlarged glands, blurred vision,  IBS, problems with temperature control, inability to concentrate, memory problems, sensitivity or intolerance to light, loud noise, alcohol and certain foods. Many people have to spend their time alone because even just being in the same room as someone can make the symptoms worse so many people become very isolated from their  family and friends. The devastation that M.E. has on people lives often leads to mental health problems such as depression and anxiety. As yet there is no cure, effective treatment or clear diagnosis and there is not enough money being put towards research by our government. It is because of this I am extremely grateful to my friend Phil for his amazing offer to run up Snowdon to raise money on my behalf and on behalf of every other sufferer for an excellent charity called Invest in M.E.. The money raised will go towards bio medical research to help find a cure, effective treatment and diagnosis. Thank you in advance for your support!
