Story
In November 2018, I have set myself the challenge of running the TCS New York Marathon in aid of The National Autistic Society. Despite being a keen runner, the idea of completing 26.2 miles daunts me. My admiration for the work of NAS has spurred me to sign up (and I hope to beat my mum’s London Marathon time too!).
My reasoning behind running for NAS is twofold. Firstly, I appreciate the number of people who are affected by autism and the help that they require. Around 700,000 people in the UK are on the autism spectrum. Together with their families, this means autism is a part of daily life for 2.8 million people. Autism is a lifelong, developmental disability that affects how a person communicates with and relates to other people, and how they experience the world around them. Secondly, I plan to emphasise the impact that NAS has on those who live with autism in the UK. Therefore, through my fundraising, I will endeavour to spread awareness about autism, and exactly what the NAS do to help.
In order to spread the word about such a great cause, I plan to set up numerous fundraising events/social activities throughout the course of the year. I look forward to sharing my journey with all of you, working towards reaching my target of£2,000. Any donation big or small would be hugely appreciated by me and The National Autistic Society.
