Story
I have officially been announced as the first solo piper in the world to hold the (Longest Marathon Playing Bagpipes) Guinness World Record.
Firstly, I am fundraising for 5 different charities and donations will be shared equally with the following:
(The Gordon Duncan Memorial Trust)
(Portlethen & District Pipe Band)
(Clan Cancer Support Aberdeen)
(Northsounds Cash For Kids)
(The National Piping Centre)
On Thursday 13th August, I successfully completed my Guinness World Record Attempt.
I am now the official Guinness World Record Holder.
The record took place at The National Piping Centre in Glasgow, within the Collinson Room.
The record was first attempted in 2013 by a piper in Las Vegas called Ryan Randall but was not officially recorded as a Guinness World Record as due to unforeseen circumstances he only managed 7hrs 14min but did manage 18 hours on a practice run.
In order to set the Guinness World Record, I needed to play my pipes for a minimum of 24 hours before Guinness would accept this as a new record.
A little about myself - My name is Rikki Evans, I am 28 years old and from Aberdeen, Scotland. I started piping when I was 8 years old with Oldmelrdum R.B.L under the leadership of Barry & Ian Tough. I played with the band for10 years and was lucky enough to be playing with the band when we won the World Pipe Band Championships for grade 4B in 2003. At the age of 18 I joined Grampian Police Pipe Band. I played with the band through our successful promotion to grade 1 in 2012. I then decided to take on a new challenge and joined Portlethen & District Pipe Band who I currently compete with today in grade 3B. I play fairly regularly as I work for my brother’s piper hire company called Alba Bagpipes. When I am not piping I am a Police Controller for Police Scotland in Aberdeen. I am not shy to take on challenges as I am also a serving Special Police Constable for Police Scotland where I volunteer and give up my time to work as a Police Officer. I have worked for the Police for almost 8 years so doing night shifts and staying up for 24 hours was nothing new to me.
