Story

Hi,

My name is Rachel Rutherford, I am 22, go by the name of Pocket Rocket Rach and am quite frankly a bit mad.

I have been wanting to do something for charity for quite a while, but wanted to pick something that would properly challenge me.

In parallel to this, due to prementioned madness, I have also wanted to partake in an IRONMAN since I started triathlon, but haven't felt ready to step up to the challenge before.

I have now signed up to take part in IRONMAN Wales in September which is apparently one of the hardest courses, nicknamed: hilly swim, hilly bike, hilly run. Luckily I do like a good hill. However I believe t
he challenge of the race is dwarfed by the challenge of cancer! This will be my first full distance race and I am both terrified and excited by the opportunityAs a warm up I am taking part in the Gravelines half iron distance triathlon in France at the beginning of July, as a birthday treat to myself..

My grandad contracted Lukemia a few years ago and sadly passed away within 2 months, barely leaving hospital during that time. This along with the fact that cancer has hit many of my family, and good friends, I have decided to fundraise for Macmillan. This will be a big motivation for me to plan my training execute my race plan the best I can.

Please help me to raise much needed funds for Macmillan, even if its as little as 20p, every donation helps!

Ps. Read all about my journey on my blog:

Thanks,

Pocket Rocket Rach

Thank you for choosing to support me and Macmillan Cancer Support. Just so you know, 30% of the sponsorship that I collect (up to the cost of my entry fee) will be reimbursed. This means that Macmillan receives 70% or more of my sponsorship.

Reimbursing 30% of my sponsorship (up to the cost of my entry fee) is a safe way of fundraising for the charity as it can be cheaper than the cost of a charity package! If you have any questions about my fundraising or why your donations may be used in this way, please don't hesitate to contact Macmillan directly at triathlon@macmillan.org.uk.
