Story
'sup? On the week commencing August the 10th I'll be attemping a Nuzlocke challenge run of Pokémon HeartGold raising money for The Trussell Trust.
Why The Trusell Trust? They support a nationwide network of food banks, providing food and support to people living in poverty while campaigning for the change necessary to end the need for food banks in the UK. Over 14 million people here are living in poverty (including 4.5 million children) that is an abhorrent figure and perfectly illustrates the failings of our goverment. The Trussell Trust has also been impacted by the coronavirus as less people are able to go out and donate physically. Your donations will help feed other human beings and go some way to help make the changes needed to end the need for food banks.
Why Pokémon HeartGold? I haven't played a Pokémon game since Blue and HeartGold is the fancy version of the next game in the series. I know enough about Pokémon to not be completely out of my depth while this still being a challenge and with the Nuzlocke rules, it will be a challenge.
Nuzlocke rules:
- You can only catch the first Pokémon of each area you encounter
- If a Pokémon faints, it's considered 'dead' and has to be released
- You have to nickname each 'mon
I'll be starting on Monday the 10th of August and trying to get the game finished in a week. It'll be fun, it'll be hard, there may be a guest or two, depending on how much you donate will impact the game (nicknaming 'mons or maybe even forcing me to release them) and hopefully we'll raise a bucketload of money in the process.
Yeah this is all well and good mate but who the hell are you? I'm Carl Denham and don't you forget it dweeb. I run CMP, Ipswich's longest running alternative stand up comedy night and since COVID-19 I've been hiding out on twitch (twitch.tv/llcoolmage). I also do stand up myself, occasionally as a bear. Sometimes I do other stuff like make games and things. I'm adorable for someone so ruggedly handsome and modest.
Last year, food banks in our network provided more than 1.6 million emergency food parcels to people in crisis. More than half a million of these went to children. It’s not right that people can’t afford the basics. With your help, we can help end the need for food banks. As a nation, we expect no one should be left hungry or destitute. Illness, disability, family breakdown or the loss of a job can happen to any of us. With your help #ThisCanChange
