James Wentworth-Stanley took his own life, aged 21, on December 15th
2006.
Like so many young men and women who commit suicide, James had so much
to live for. He was bright, good looking and charming, with no history
of mental illness nor depression. He was not a heavy drinker nor a drug
user. His decline from being his normal, happy self to being anxious,
depressed and ultimately suicidal occurred in just two weeks and those close to
him were unable to appreciate the severity of what was happening. This
is a frightening thought for many of you I am sure.
James was at Newcastle University in his 2nd year, and was the same age
as me. I cannot think of a
charity that I would rather run 26.2 miles for.
Can you imagine feeling like there is no way out, no solution to your
problems other than to take your own life? Suicide is the greatest cause of
death amongst young men and women in the UK, with
around 15 suicides a day in 2006, this is a problem that must be tackled
openly rather than swept under the carpet!
The James Wentworth-Stanley Memorial fund has been set up by James's
parents to help raise awareness of anxiety, depression and suicide
amongst young people.
Please sponsor me to help raise awareness of this problem, and to strive
to ensure young people know where to turn for help when depressed or
anxious. Help to remove the stigma of mental illness. It affects the
brightest and most brilliant people in this world, and has no regard for
back ground or circumstance.
I am not a natural runner at all and this is proving to be a far greater challenge than I ever thought it would be. Please help to increase my determination to complete this in 3 hours 59 minutes by sponsoring me......Thank you. Poppy xxx
