As you'll be aware, 2014 has not been a good year, globally. So very many have suffered terrible deprivation and atrocity across the world. Back in June, at St Michael's Church, Woolmer Green, Hertfordshire, we held a prayer vigil for the persecuted people of Iraq. After the vigil, I heard how moving people had found it to hear the stories of those who suffer, and to pray for them, and again and again I heard: 'we need to do something.' 

So was born the idea of an 'auction of promises and products' in aid of FRRME, an excellent, small British registered charity working to bring desperately-needed aid to those who have lost everything but their lives this year in northern Iraq. This will take place on Saturday 22nd November, 7.30pm, venue tbc v. v. soon in the Woolmer Green / Welwyn area, tickets £5 in advance or at the door to include drinks and nibbles. All proceeds from the evening will go to FRRME. 

So this is how you can do your bit to ease the suffering of so many: 

1) Offer a promise or product for auction! It could be a product: something you've made, like a cake or an artwork or craft product , or a promise: something you can do for someone else; a skill, experience or help that will interest or benefit someone else. Ideas might include lessons in a skill like music or craft, specialised skills such as will-writing, D.I.Y or ironing (yes, that is a specialised skill!), an experience like a day or evening out (if you have access to anywhere exciting, a 'behind the scenes' tour is always a winner!) or even a short break in your holiday home.  Or maybe something completely different! Use your talents and imagination! Please email offers of promises or products to curate@welwyn.org.uk.You don't necessarily need to be local, depending on what you offer, or at the auction (although it will be a great fun evening!)  

2) If you are able to, come along on November 22nd, enjoy a glass of wine, and bid, bid, bid! If you're not able to come but would like to take this opportunity to donate to FRRME, simply do so via this page; it will go straight to FRRME. 

3) Once you've won your fab lot, use this page to pay for your promise or product. (Other payment methods will be available.)
