Story
Thank you Pura Vida Fitness for supporting our charity.
A team of midwives at the Royal Berkshire Hospital are campaigning to raise funds to refurbish the 10 birthing rooms on the Delivery Suite. Around 6000 babies a year are born at the Royal Berks with the majority of their mothers being cared for on the Delivery Suite. The environment, whilst functional, is becoming dated and not meeting the needs of the mothers and their birth partners.
Our aim is to provide an updated environment that promotes normal birth; it will be welcoming, fresh and calming and give women and their partners the ability to adapt the space to their needs.
Funding for four rooms, designed by the women who have used the facilities as they are, has been sourced so far, with work set to start very soon. The money raised by Pura Vida Fitness will be used to purchase equipment trolleys and lockable bedside lockers for these delivery rooms.
The equipment trolleys are an essential feature in the new layout of the rooms. They will provide concealed storage for medical equipment hidden from view, which has been requested by women to lower their levels of anxiety in labour. Furthermore they will act as a work station for the midwives, a surface to lay out equipment when needed and can be positioned anywhere in the room to create a relaxed environment where women feel in control of their surroundings.
