St Gemma's Hospice is a local, independent charity providing the best possible care and support for people in Leeds with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses. We support patients and their families, both in the Hospice and in the community, at any stage of their illness.

Story

Thanks for visiting the Quarry House Angling Club’s competition!

On the 17th April 2010 the Quarry House Angling Club fished at  Spofforth, near Wetherby to raise money for St Gemma’s Hospice. John Pickard the venue owner let the club fish for free so that the match fees could go to the charity. Friends and supporters had sponsored the event and many had taken part in a competition to guess the total weight of fish that would be caught on the day. The person guessing nearest to the actual weight of fish caught winning a prize.

The Result

The weather was very bright and warm and ideal conditions for fishing. Whilst some pegs proved more popular with the fish than others a good day was had by the 13 members and friends of the club who turned up to donate their "pools" money and fish for charity. The total weight of fish caught on the day was 160lbs and 8 ozs - see below for details.

The lucky sponsor who estimated closest to the exact weight of fish was George Roe. He wins restaurant vouchers.
