May 2011
Thanks for visiting my page. Just to give you an update.... My bike training is going well, I am getting the mileage up on the static bike (3 hours is a long time and boredom really sets in after 2 hours!) On the road I raced in the Chilterns Big Dipper 100 mile bike ride, which tested my training, but very pleased to say I won the open womens event in a time of 5.49. I was hoping for under 7 hours, so was very pleased to come in under 6. I did however race it to the line, which I won't be doing for the Ironman with a marathon to complete at the end! I also need to change my saddle!!!!!
Running hasn't been going so well as I suffered from shin splints in my right ankle, however this seems to be getting better so I hope to get the miles in again very soon. I am also pleased to say I came out of the pool and did my first open water swim this month. It was scary at first but with a good coach and a buoyant wetsuit I ended up really enjoying it! I am now actually looking forward to the swim.
That's it for now - will give another update next month. I have a mini tri coming up so will give another update then. Not long to go now.....yikes!
Why am I doing this?
At the moment, there's no cure for a broken heart.
Once your heart muscle is damaged by a heart attack, it can never fully recover. With almost a quarter of a million people in the UK suffering from heart attacks every year, the British Heart Foundation are funding groundbreaking research that could begin to literally 'mend broken hearts'.
The zebrafish is already providing vital clues about how we might mend human hearts. They can repair their own heart, and scientists are trying to unlock their secrets to learn how we can repair ours too.
I am competing in the UK Ironman competition to support this worthwhile cause.
The Ironman is the one of the most grueling competitions anyone can aspire to achieve. It consists of a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike ride followed by a Marathon, all in one day, one event after the other. All this must be completed in under 17 hours to earn the Ironman status.
Please help me support this groundbreaking research by sponsoring me. Any amount small or large is most gratefully received.
Thank you for your support.
