For those of you who don't know, my mother is from Sierra Leone which is the second poorest country in the world and where 1 in 4 children die before the age of 5.  This is in a large part due to the bloody civil war which ended in 2002 and during which thousands of children were forced to fight for the rebel army, were beaten, raped and tortured (cutting people's hands off was the rebels' calling card).

I know 10 kilometres isn't far compared to the marathons that some of you have completed but given my well-documented aversion to any form of exercise, I'm sure you'll appreciate that for me this is the equivalent of climbing Everest and it's for a fantastic cause.
