Rally4ShelterBox 2015 · 30 May 2015
Rally4ShelterBox is an event organised entirely by students from Falmouth University and University of Exeter Cornwall Campus. The rally will consist of one group of participants, who will complete a 370km (230 miles) endurance circuit of the Cornish coastline in a series of relay legs, using only man-power (jogging, swimming, cycling, walking, kayaking, gig rowing and sailing) to complete the rally. The rally will start at The Prince of Wales Pier, Falmouth on Saturday May 30th and will run continuously until the finish is reached in the vicinity of Falmouth Quay (The chain locker area), Falmouth, estimated to be early evening Sunday May 31st. In the weeks prior to the rally, a series of events both on and off Penryn Campus will take place in order to boost the awareness amongst students and the community.
ShelterBox is an international disaster relief charity, specialising in emergency shelter. They instantly respond to earthquake, volcano, flood, hurricane, cyclone, tsunami or conflict by delivering boxes of aid. Each box supplies a family of up to 10 people with a tent and lifesaving equipment to use while they are displaced or homeless - the cost of a box is £590, including delivery direct to those who need it. Highly trained ShelterBox response teams (SRTs) distribute boxes on the ground, working closely with local organisations, international aid agencies and Rotary clubs worldwide. Since 2001, ShelterBox has provided shelter, warmth and dignity to over 900,000 people
