The Stroke Association - High Voltage Abseil · 19 November 2011 ·

Every day in the UK, another 240 people wake up to the catastrophic impact of a stroke. The Stroke Association is the only charity in the UK providing lifelong support for all stroke survivors and their families.

Story

Dear Friends and Family,

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. This abseil is in memory of my Aunt Kate who died in 2004, and for Agnes Grey who died of a stroke in 2011. Your donations mean a lot to me :)

As many of you may be aware, I am attempting to do something charitable every year. Last year I completed a skydive for 'Shelter' - a charity for the homeless - and in previous years I have recorded CD's and climbed Ben Nevis.

On the 19th of November 2011, I am planning to abseil 100ft down Battersea power station in London. While originally I was abseiling down the Spinnaker tower in Pourtsmouth, I believe that this may be even more challenging, and I would appreciate your support!

Thank you for all your support so far, and to everyone who has donated money for this very worthwhile cause, especially to Richard Grey, who helped to donate £500 to the Stroke Association. You are very welcome to come and watch what may be a terrifying experience for me!

Stroke is the third biggest killer in the UK, and every year an estimated 150,000 people have a stroke. Of all the people who suffer a stroke, about a third are likely to die within the first ten days, about a third are likely to make a recovery within one month and about a third are likely to be left disabled and needing rehibillitation. Stroke has a greater disability impact than any other medical condition.

A quarter of a million people are living with long-term disability as a result of stroke in the UK. The Stroke Association is the only UK wide charity solely concerned with combating stroke in people of all ages. It funds research into prevention, treatment and better methods of rehibillitation, and helps Stroke patients and thier families directly through its 'Life After Stroke' services. The Stroke Association also campaigns, educates and informs to increase knowledge of Stroke at all levels of society, and to act as a voice for everyone affected by Stroke.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally sedcure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it's the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and donate now. Even just a few pennies can make all the difference.

Thank you!
