Marie Curie is here for anyone with an illness they’re likely to die from, and those close to them. Whatever the illness, wherever you are, we’re with you to the end. We bring 75 years of experience and leading research to the care we give you at home, in our hospices and over the phone.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit ourJustGiving page.

We have run to raise money for charity before but this year wanted to run for Marie Curie. Marie Curie helped and supported my Mum, Nonna Janet and my Dad when Mum was ill with COPD. When she died they provided loads of support to Dad and we are so grateful for that.

When asked to sum up Marie Curie, Dad's words were "Super Amazing". Enough said!

We are warming up with Emillie and Bella running the Milton Keynes Festival of Running 5K and I will run the half marathon. Due to car crash injuries that mean I can't run for a fast time I decided to do something a bit different.....

An attempt to beat the Guinness World Record for ......Fastest Marathon Dressed as a Telephone Box!!!

The current record was set in 2014 and is 5 hours 54 minutes in a box structure weighing 15 kilos.

We are designing a lightweight 6kg box with a large realistic photographic red telephone box on each side 160cm tall and 60 cm wide. The attempt will be at the Virgin London Marathon 2015 in April with a required test run to prove the design works at the Silverstone Half Marathon on 15 March so not much time to build the box.

This is a big challenge for us with training and designing a complicated costume and with loads of rules to follow from Guinness World Records. However the attempt has been reviewed and accepted as an official attempt subject to the performance check at Silverstone (a bit like designing and testing an F1 car.....just a bit slower and on a slightly smaller budget! It's going to take all the design ingenuity of Team Nardi to do it.

How to get around 26.2 miles in a phone box and beat the record despite ongoing injury is an unknown but we are going to do it.

Please support us with a donation. All proceeds and any Gift Aid go straight to Marie Curie and it would be wonderful to raise a good total for them.

See updates as we post them below on events and the building of the box!

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe– they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity.
