Following the success of the first Swim for Tom in January 2019, we are pleased to announce we will be holding the second Swim for Tom between 9am and 9pm on Sunday 12 January 2020 at Monmouth School for Girls. Come and join us for a joyous and fun community event and at the same time raise money for Cancer Research Wales in memory of Tom Walker, who died of acute myeloid leukaemia (AML) in June 2018. Tom was a keen swimmer and swam for both Monmouth School and Monnow swimming club.
We need swimmers of all abilities, from beginners to Olympians to help us break this year's target of swimming 1000km or 40,000 lengths - only 468 more lengths than first Swim for Tom in January 2019. We also need volunteers to count the number of lengths and help with the café (including baking cakes) and general organisation of the event. All swimmers and volunteers will receive a commemorative pin badge and swimmers will also get a swim hat.
Like last year, each swimmer will be allocated an hour-long slot and it will be possible to swim in the same lane as your friends and family. There will be up to eight swimmers per lane, and as well as keeping families and groups together we will try to allocate lanes based on swimming ability. There is a suggested donation of £10 per swimmer. Please use GiftAid if you are a taxpayer.
