  • lucyrunsforlily

Two years ago I had never heard of neuroblastoma. Then in January 2013, out of the blue, the youngest daughter of my friends Michael and Caroline Gray was diagnosed with it. Lily was eighteen months old at the time. Neuroblastoma is a rare form of childhood cancer which requires an intensive regime of treatment.

Lily responded extremely well to her induction chemotherapy between January and April, and to her surgery to remove a tumour in May.  Her high dose chemotherapy and stem cell transplant in June and July appeared to go well. However in early September it became clear the neuroblastoma was just too aggressive and sadly she passed away on 19th September 2013 aged 2 years and 3 months.

I wanted to do something to honour Lily, my children's friend and playmate, who enjoyed the things most children do, even after she was ill, and during her treatment. Like playing with her big sister, running round gardens, hiding in playhouses, pushing prams, feeding the ducks, arguing over who gets to go down a slide first, singing nursery rhymes, watching Peppa Pig, exploring the countryside, eating birthday cake!

Lily was a funny, feisty and beautiful little girl, full of spirit, and I am grateful for the opportunity to run the London Marathon in her name and in celebration of her life.

Neuroblastoma is a nasty disease, often much more aggressive than other childhood and adult cancers. A breakthrough is needed to help children like Lily and this can only be achieved through medical research. The Neuroblastoma Society seeks the relief of children suffering from neuroblastoma, and to achieve this it raises funds for medical research into improving both diagnosis and treatment of the disease. The Society also offers an opportunity for parents to give each other mutual help, support and comfort.

This is not my first marathon (although it is my first for some time and who knows how my creaky bones will get on!) but this one is special, it's for Lily.

By sponsoring me and making a donation to the Neuroblastoma Society you will be helping to find a cure for neuroblastoma, which she fought so hard to beat.

  • RideForLily

Thank you for visiting my RideForLily JustGiving page, raising money for The Neuroblastoma Society (NSOC) in memory of my niece, Lily Gray.

Neuroblastoma is an aggresive form of cancer which mainly effects young children aged under 5 years old.  It is particularly difficult to treat with current treatments (mainly chemotherapy).

Lily sadly lost her brave battle against neuroblastoma on September 19 2013, aged just 27 months.  She battled so hard not to let cancer beat her during her short time with us and left an indelible mark on our lives and in our hearts.

With so many people and organisations helping support Lily and her family during her battle against neuroblastoma I felt it was important to give something back and support the ongoing work to help find a cure for neuroblastoma.  I will therefore be cycling the Cols of the Tour-de-France between 26th-28th June 2015 in aid of The Neuroblastoma Society.

The Neuroblastoma Society conduct essential work to help find a cure for neuroblastoma, as well as offering support and information for effected families.  In supporting the NSOC you will be helping young children and their families who find their lives turned upside down by this cancer.

The cycle route will cover many of the classic mountain Cols of the French Alps, including the Col de la Madeliene, the Col du Galibier and the infamous Alpe d'Huez covered by the Tour de-France.  The ride includes over 24,500 feet of climbing over 3 days of cycling and is going to be a serious challenge - especally for somebody living in 'very flat', Norfolk.  But no matter how hard, it will not be as tough as battling neuroblastoma, which Lily had to do!

You can view details of the ride under Discover Adventure's 'Classic Cols of the Tour' page and on Twitter which I plan to keep updated with progress during the ride: twitter.com/RideForLily
. Thanks to Onestop Webshop for supporting me on this ride.

Please consider making a donation.  You will be helping to find a cure for neuroblastoma, which Lily fought so hard to beat.

    Thank You.
    Terry Gray

  • Haddenham100

Thank you for visiting The Haddenham Lads JustGiving page, raising money for children's cancer charity The Neuroblastoma Society in memory of Lily Gray. Lily, the youngest daughter of one of the Haddenham Lads, lost her battle against the disease on September 19 2013, aged just 2 years and 3 months old.

On Sunday 7 September 2014, the Haddenham Lads are attempting 'The Haddenham 100' - an almost hundred mile bike ride from Haddenham, Cambridgeshire, back home to Haddenham, Buckinghamshire, in just 1 day!  The Haddenham Lads are riders Adam Richards-Gray, Alex Giles, Alistair McRonald, Andrew Smith, Dan Roberts, Darren McKay, Henry Eccles, Ian Brooke, Jim Dowson, Michael Gray, Moiz Moghal, William Peel, and support team Jan Karmali, Mark Cliffe and Ed Rowe. Most of us are new to road racing.

Lily was a funny, feisty and beautiful little girl, full of spirit and always true to herself.  She was a sociable baby and thriving toddler who loved playing with her many friends in Haddenham and from around the UK and the world, doing exactly the things that all young children do.  She went to the local Haddenham playgroups where she had lots of fun with her pals and she also had lots of adventures at the duck pond, in the garden, as well as at home.  She adored her big sister and they were always very close.

In January 2013 after becoming unwell quite suddenly, Lily was diagnosed with a type of cancer called neuroblastoma.  This disease is rare and unpredictable and requires an intensive regime of treatment.  Lily responded extremely well to her induction chemotherapy between January and April, and to her surgery to remove a tumour in May.  Her high dose chemotherapy and stem cell transplant in June and July appeared to go well.

Unfortunately, by early September it had became clear that the neuroblastoma was just too aggresive and all treatment was stopped.  Lily passed away on 19th September in her mummy's arms.

Even after Lily became ill, she remained happy, positive and determined to do all the normal things that little girls love to do: drawing, painting, pushing her toy doggy and prams, running, CYCLING(!), and copying anything her big sister did.  She was truly an amazing and inspiring little girl, lighting up the lives of everybody who had the fortune to know her.

Neuroblastoma is a nasty disease, often much more aggressive than other childhood and adult cancers.  We need a breakthrough and this can only happen through medical research.  This is why we've nominated The Neuroblastoma Society as our chosen charity in memory of Lily.

If you would like to make a donation and leave a message on this page that would be appreciated as a simple way of celebrating Lily's life.  In supporting The Neuroblastoma Society you will be helping to find a cure for the disease that she fought so hard to beat.

    Love, The Haddenham Lads.

Lily lost her battle with neuroblastoma last year, aged 2 years. She was a wonderful little girl whom I had the pleasure of knowing. Please give whatever you can in memory of Lily and to fund research to find a cure.

Thank you for visiting our page in memory of Lily Gloria Jane Gray.

Lily was a funny, feisty and beautiful little girl, full of spirit and always true to herself!  She loved hiding in her and her sister Ava's playhouse, whizzing down slides, eating ice lollies and feeding the ducks at Haddenham Pond.  She had a lovely smile and giggle, and always ensured we all gave each other kisses and hugs.  We often all danced in the kitchen together and she really had quite good taste in music, always dancing to great tunes. She liked telling everyone what to do, "Wake up Daddy!", "Mummy, don't like you shoes", "Ava do it", but hated a fuss herself!

She loved playing with her many friends, doing exactly the things that all young children do.  She had a very close family of teddies, named 'Team Lily' by a good friend, which included Blackberry the bunny, Biscuit bear and Toby the dog.

As some of you may know, Lily was diagnosed with neuroblastoma in January 2013.
