Story

In the UK, 5 people die every hour from sepsis, taking 52,000 lives every year. The UK Sepsis Trust educates healthcare professionals, health commissioners, government organisations and the wider public to ‘think’ sepsis, recognise the condition swiftly, and ensure that it is treated as an emergency, whilst maintaining a responsible stance on the use of antimicrobials. They provide support to patients and their relatives, including those bereaved by sepsis, through the provision of accessible information and the development of support networks. They also lobby the Government to ensure that the infrastructure to support hospitals and other healthcare organisations in delivering exemplary sepsis care is in place

Sepsis accounts for 48,000 deaths annually in the UK, that’s more than breast, bowel and prostate cancer put together. Sepsis is what happens when our immune system overreacts to an infection. Symptoms initially present as flu like but can rapidly deteriorate into a life threatening condition.
